Out with the Old and In with the New

It’s a given: the restrictions confining us to our homes in 2021 was a let-down. Neither were we able to travel nor could we celebrate the new year with friends, stealing all our excuses to dress up too! We resorted to loungewear (because what else at home, right?), and that’s the perfect description for 2021 fashion! In fact, designers all took advantage of the pandemic, too, profiting off of it in their own ways. Whether it was virtual fashion shows or designer-leisure wear, designers got creative once again to establish themselves in a world of shifted fashion.

2021 painted us a palette of both old and new trends. From trending colour-clashing to Y2K fashion and blending monochromes with a divergent palette of pastels, it was a year of genuine fashion excitement. This year proved to be an infinite source of opportunities for creators and models to each partake in these new trends. Even sitting at home and lounging our athleisure wear, the only accessory that was mandatory throughout was our face mask; and that wasn’t spared by fashion either! We found designer masks, getting them bedazzled, customised, and whatnot! If we couldn’t don fancy clothes, at least our face masks could be!

In footwear, we roamed around in fit-flops, sneakers, sandals, and more – instead of a HI to HIgh-heels, we bid farewell to those stilettos! However, as things improved by the end of the year, fast-fashion brands all had their annual collections in store! Filled with party wear and cocktail dresses with sparkles galore, we were driven crazy – desperately wanting more for the big celebrations of Christmas and New Years’ parties! No one held back when it came to the end of the year; as people say, “out with the old, in with the new” – which was precisely the attitude for 2022.

2022 fashion trends greatly excite everyone heading into the new year, with catsuits already donned by celebrities like Lizzo and Hailey Beiber, oversized shirts already stealing the spotlight on the Fendi runway, and much more! The last year was quite a challenge for people, but we’re certainly going to embrace what this year has in store for us – and not just fashion-wise. Here’s to 2022!
