Is it really French Fries?

Thin. Crispy. Salty. Delicious. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear these words? I can guarantee you that it would be nothing besides French Fries for me.

American soldiers initially crafted french fries in an attempt to replace the fried fish traditionally consumed in villages where soldiers were on standby during World War 1. In lieu of protesting, these fish-deprived villagers found this potato-based alternative equally soothing in the winters, which led to French Fries being named after these American soldiers… But shouldn’t that be American fries?

This delectable dish was named French Fries after its location and its language. Since the soldiers devised this dish in Southern Belgium (where the native language is French), the dish was dubbed “French” Fries.

French Fries are widely devoured worldwide for their fulfilling and wholesome taste. These fried potatoes laden in salt satisfy your brain’s sodium-and-carbs cravings, boosting demand everywhere! In fact, fast-food chains have now established themselves in even poverty-struck countries, as these quick, easy, and cheap meals are healthy and fulfilling. However, french fries may not be your best friend when enjoyed in excess.

French fries are deep-fried in hydrogenated oils and come packed with trans fats. This, in turn, raises your bad cholesterol levels and lowers good cholesterol, further birthing risks of heart disease. On the other hand, Baked fries can help you control blood pressure and reduce your systolic blood pressure as well. The natural potassium levels in baked fries are higher than the supplements present in fried fries, in turn helping you maintain the fluid levels of your cells. Talk about having junk food in a healthy manner! However, it is worth noting that despite their great taste, baked fries seldom taste the same as fried ones!

To enjoy your helping of french fries sans-guilt, try to measure your portions. A healthy serving consists of 10 to 15 fries consumed weekly. Eat what you want, when you want, but portion control is essential for it to be healthy. Everything is good for you but within its limits!
