Bill Cunnigham once claimed, “Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life,” which is mirrored by Mrs Khushboo Mehta’s philosophy on fashion. It’s a medium that transports you; excites you; expresses you; lets you be you. What else could you ask out of a career path bridled with passion and enthusiasm?

Mrs Mehta entered the fashion industry spurred by her innate love for fashion and stunning apparel. Her simple excitement at the prospect of styling people encouraged her to start her brand, ‘FOमो Clothing’, which is reflected in each of her pieces. Inspired by the fun and quirky elements that range from one season to another, she equips motifs and designs that uplift one’s mood, such as the bright, full-of-life flamingos blending with summer. Besides this, her clothes feature women in pop art, a form that highlights bold, strong female characters in a way that expresses their confidence and shows who’s boss.

In an interesting take, Mrs Mehta shared that fashion designers – as artists – don’t need to set themselves apart in the hype of being so-called “unique”. In this art form, everyone has their own speciality, their niche aesthetic. Even if two designers are working on the same, or even similar, pattern, each designer has their particular way of working on it, and each design has its specific way of standing out. Her personal philosophy also includes creating comfortable and stylish clothes while making a statement of their own. The bold, charismatic nature of her clothes, paired with the bright pop-art colours she equips, can certainly brighten up a dull day!

Fashion is also an ancient form of armour for people, especially as a form of self-expression. What one wears speaks a lot about their personality, including the colours they don and how they carry themselves. Of course, an outfit that fits one well and flatters one’s body can undoubtedly boost their confidence. If one is wearing good clothes, it can also help elevate their mood and help them feel more comfortable in their own skin; that is the magic carried by clothes.

In fact, Mrs Mehta’s work ethic is quite the opposite of fast fashion. Fast fashion brands cater to millions of people on an enormous scale. We read articles almost daily on poor pay and working conditions for employees, and their production methods often leave the environment in the backseat. On the other hand, her approach to fashion differs entirely, prioritising mutual respect for everyone involved in the production-consumption process! Each of her custom-made pieces is made-to-order, ensuring minimal wastage of resources. Within her brand, she personally tries to minimise the use of plastic and refrain from using any synthetic, non-biodegradable materials in any of her outfits.

In her compelling journey, Mrs Mehta also shed light on the role of social media in fashion, significantly how it helped her and countless others share their passion with the world. With a simple click of buttons, numerous platforms can immediately bring us iconic fashion moments such as Paris Fashion Week, all while sitting at home. Besides the inspiration, social media algorithms also push content to interested audiences, which Mrs Mehta found beneficial in her work trajectory! Besides enabling a wider reach and sourcing potential clients, these platforms also allowed her to expand her network with fashion influencers and advertising too.

There’s never a constant in fashion, much like a lot in life. What we can ascertain, however, is that with Mrs Khushboo Mehta’s immense creativity and passion, alongside her stellar work ethic and vision, we’ll see her reach new heights in the fashion industry!
