“Depression isn’t a war you win. It’s a battle you fight every day.” ― Shaun David Hutchinson.
Mental health has become a topic buried by society, and this causes many people to think that it is not okay to talk about their problems.
It’s not easy, but each bad day that you get through is another battle you have won, and it will get easier every step you take in the right direction. No one out there is perfect, and if you look at your imperfections and embrace them, then you will be able to use them to drive you forward and achieve that win at the end of the day. You don’t have to hide, you should feel free to talk to your friends and family, they may not be going through the same thing you’re going through, but they’re going to try and understand, be there for you and help you through this. It’s important to talk to your friends and check if they’re doing okay, sometimes hearing your voice and talking can be the thing that pulls them back and stabilises them. Don’t be afraid to show your scars; they are a symbol of the hardship you have been through and overcome and become stronger.
We need to create a safe environment for people to be able to talk about their emotions and feelings, and we should encourage everyone to do so. Everyone should feel safe to talk about their struggles. Everyone needs to be open-minded and non-judgemental about someone else’s struggles, and no one should undermine others’ battles. Everyone has fought their battles, so it is essential to lend an ear when necessary, and you must be empathetic at the very least.
You are trying to do your best, and that’s all that matters. It’s okay to feel the need to be alone sometimes. It’s okay to feel down. It’s okay to talk about your emotions. It’s okay not to be perfect, and most importantly, it’s okay not to be okay, as long as you remember that you will get through this.
